This term we have been learning about Gravity and Magnetism. The iron in our breakfast cereal is the same iron that is magnetic! You can make 2 magnets levitate because the same poles will repel each other. The Earth has a magnetic field which protects us from solar flares and creates the aurora. A compass will always point North because it aligns itself with the Earth's magnetic North Pole. The moon's gravity controls the ocean's tides on Earth. On the Space Station there is zero gravity. Zero gravity weakens your bones and muscles because they need gravity to work normally. When you brush your teeth in zero gravity, you have to swallow the toothpaste because the water cannot be wasted. When you wring out a washer in zero gravity, the water forms a tube around the washer and your hands. When you sleep in zero gravity, you have to be strapped into your sleeping bag to the wall. Velcro helps things stay stuck to the walls so they don't get in the way. When you cry in space the tears stay on your eyes. There is no running water in space. Not all metals are magnetic because they don't have iron in them.
