In Term 3, 4 White have learnt about Gravity and Magnetism. Did you know that the iron in breakfast cereal is the same as the iron that is magnetic?! Not all metals are magnetic because they don't contain iron. Some of these metals include aluminium, gold and silver. The Earth has its own magnetic field which creates the aurora and protects us from solar flares. The moon's gravity controls the ocean's tides on Earth. Watches, phones and iPads have their own magnetic field. Magnets can interfere with and damage them. We weigh less on the moon because it has 1/6 the gravity of Earth. The larger an object is, the more gravity it has. Gravity is the most powerful force in the universe. On the Space Station, there is zero gravity. All the water on the Space Station has to be recycled, which is why you have to swallow your toothpaste and use a towel to wash your hair. Velcro is used to keep things from floating away, including your sleeping bag! When you wring out a washer in zero gravity, the water forms a tube around the washer and your hands.
